Wards Catalogue Fossil Casts

During the late 19th Century and into the 20th, the Wards company (still in business) catalogue of scientific supplies made available for purchase a number of fossil paster casts, ranging from invertebrates to complete skeletons. These “plasterotheres” were exhibited in museum and various events, including world’s fairs and agricultural expositions (this tinted postcard from the Butterfield Museum, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH).

Below are some latter 19th-Century stereopticon views of some of these venues exhibiting Wards casts. (To see them in 3D, “reverse cross” your eyes.)
